I love when people do something that everyone…I mean EVERYONE wants to do, but are afraid to. There are many things that prevent us from acting on some of our wishes and dreams – physical ability, time, finances, courage, etc.
There isn’t a person alive who has a computer who hasn’t wanted to throw it out the window at some point. This guy in Germany actually did it! Yay for him! Click on the link for the story on Engaget…
Tonight, my Oldest Daughter and I went to see Fantastic 4: The Rise Of The Silver Surfer. We got there early and as we waited, we checked the reviews on my phone – not too good. One quote, I believe from the AP, said “The Fantastic 4 – still a bore.” So, we thought who cares? We were there to see a silly superhero movie, and that is exactly what we saw.
If you go to see a movie based on a comic book series, you get what you get. I was a big fan of the comics as a boy. Did I expect an incredible replication of the same? Nope. Did I care? Nope. The Kid and I had a ball. There were some decent special effects, some good lines, and some fun. Plus, there was Jessica Alba – which for any male is a positive.
I am now going to have to get the first Fantastic 4 to see how it got to that point.
Bottom line: If you dig superhero movies, go see it. If you are looking for a serious drama or something like that, don’t! Let some of us who like goofiness enjoy the piffle.
Those of you who know me, know that I am the father of two wonderful girls – one through my first marriage, and the other is my step-daughter who I acquired in my current (and final) marriage. I love them both equally and dearly. I get to have my Oldest Daughter (from marriage #1) every other weekend and two weeks during the summer for visitation.
This year, we thought we would have my mother come up to help for one of the weeks of summer visitation so we don’t have to worry about vacation and day care issues (i lost a week of vacation due to having surgery recently). Unfortunately, my mother became ill and called us the night before I was to pick her up to tell us she could not come up (get well ma!). So, we called in some reinforcements – My Lovely Wife’s parents. They were able to come up for two days so we could work normally. My Lovely Wife covered the first two days, being that it was the weekend, Grandparents covered Monday and Tuesday. I got Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
This is always a concern for My Lovely Wife because I typically run at a high level of stress and any added difficulties add to the potential for being upset. So, trying to find something to do for all of us is a primary goal. Yesterday I came up with a humdinger. Worlds Of Fun. We have Season Passports to Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun. So, with the weather being a bit cool (it never got above 81 degrees all day) I chose WOF. I contacted My Lovely Wife to share my plans and to invite her to join us. We got a LATE start to the trip being that I came up with the idea as we were eating lunch. My Lovely Wife decided she could join us after she got off from work.
We got to the park at about 2pm. The girls were full of energy (duh) and extremely well behaved. We went through several rides and activities before we met My Lovely Wife for dinner and our return to the park. We got to catch a performance by some stunt dogs which was very entertaining and fun. We spent the rest of the night fitting in as many rides as we could. Our youngest is now tall enough to ride some more rides and was happy to add them to her list.
Even though it was a work night for My Lovely Wife, we ended up closing the park. All of us were pretty wiped out by the time we got home around 11pm.
The moral of the story? None really. Just that one should always take time to be with the kids. This is one of my focuses this year. I try to be there as much as I can, and this week is an example of that.
I put together three slideshows of pictures I took on my cell phone of the fireworks at the Olathe Fireworks celebration. Some were pretty darn good. You can view them here:
Today, we are making a switch. We are going from DSL and Dish to ATT U-VERSE. This will combine our internet and television services into one package. It SHOULD be pretty cool. The whole thing is controlled by one box.
Some of the reported features are: We will be able to program our DVR via the internet; Picture in picture; and A bar we can set to scroll information at the bottom of the tv screen (coming soon).
Some negatives: There currently is no whole house DVR, which will mean our youngest daughter will be forced to watch Hannah Montana downstairs. That is really it.
I am doing this post on my cell since my interwebs is down at home. I will share more later!
September 2, 2007 at Kemper Arena – Nickelback, Puddle Of Mudd & Daughtry. Not too bad of a triple bill. Pre-sale of the tickets launched today for 12 hours. I got in with 5 minutes left. Pretty good. However, the seats are in the back corner area of the first tier. Can you say Jumbotron? The floor is not reserved seating, but General Admission. I have done my concert crushing thing for the year with Rockfest, so the seats are good with me!
One of the cool things for me is getting to see a more full set by Puddle Of Mudd. They kicked major butt at Rockfest, but, it was a festival set list and possibly more condensed than a regular set.
One of the other neat things is that this is going to be my Oldest Daughter’s first ROCK show. She went to Nsync when she was 6, and Trans-Siberian Orchestra this past Christmas. She is a HUGE Daughtry fan and really digs Nickelback. She was very excited when I printed the receipt off and had My Lovely Wife hand it to her. This is going to be fun.
Gonna LOVE the brown bag special thing! Expert Sammich Maker I am!
1. We were able to upgrade our rooms to the 8th level from the 4th, and put them closer to the elevators and the front, which will be greatly beneficial to my knees.
2. I was able to use my hotel points that I had accumulated from a previous job where I traveled alot and booked a two bedroom suite (2 queen beds and 2 bathrooms). My Lovely Wife and I are quite excited about how this turned out!
That is about it for now. More details as they come in.
Last night, I heard on Sirius Radio that Nickelback had added some dates to their current tour…finishing up in Kansas City. Then tonight I get a notice from KQRC that not only is it Nickelback, but, the openers are Daughtry and Puddle Of Mudd. Now, we have already established that I frickin LOVE Puddle Of Mudd. I have also become fond of Daughtry – he has a good voice, and I did NOT start listening to him until AFTER the American Idol thing. I am also HUGELY into Nickelback…have been for some time. Even My Lovely Wife groaned when she heard the full lineup…she likes Daughtry and can tolerate Nickelback.
So, why am I pissedish? (Yes, I am coining a new word here…feel free to use it.) Well, I went online to check the ticket prices. The show is at Kemper Arena and list the tickets at $46.50 and $65.50. Big deal? Not too much – if you hadn’t JUST BOOKED A CRUISE! UUUUUUUGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!
So, I believe that I will have to be passing on this one. Sadly.
But, keeping the cruise in mind, I will be fine with it.
